Community Employment, Inc. was established in May of 2002 to provide quality employment services to individuals with disabilities. 

In May of 2003 CEI received a 3-year CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation.  This opened up opportunities for CEI to expand services to serve more individuals through Vocational Rehabilitation.  In 2004 CEI entered into a contract with Rehabilitation Services for The Blind.  In January 2005 a satellite office was established in Joplin so that CEI could reach out to more individuals.  In 2006 CEI received another 3-year CARF accreditation.

In 2008 CEI expanded services to the Kansas City and St. Louis areas.  CEI also established a contract with the state of Kansas to provide Supported Employment.
